Digital Product Passport · DPP
A product passport starts with data you can explain.
A material value, a supplier declaration, a new version to review. See how Echuvia helps teams prepare the product information behind a Digital Product Passport.

01 / The idea
What is a Digital Product Passport?
A Digital Product Passport connects an identifiable product with relevant digital information. Access depends on the audience and applicable requirements.
For a manufacturer, preparation starts with a practical question: which product facts do we hold, where did they come from, and who approved them? Echuvia focuses on managing that underlying data and evidence.
European Commission: Digital Product Passport ↗02 / A concrete example
Open the data record for PX-240.
The following values are invented for this walkthrough. They illustrate a data-preparation model, not a prescribed passport dataset or a real customer product.
| Product information | Illustrative value | Source / context | Review status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product identifier | ECH-DEMO-PX240 | Internal demo record | Recorded |
| Housing material | Cast iron | DEMO-MAT-01 · housing only | Reviewed |
| Product mass | 18.4 kg | DEMO-MASS-01 · complete assembly | Draft |
| Recycled content | 20% by mass | DEMO-SUP-02 · housing only · v2 | Approved version |
| Repair instructions | Service guide | DEMO-SERVICE-01 | Review pending |
| Carbon footprint | No validated value | Source and calculation basis missing | Open gap |
The housing’s recycled-content value is not the recycled content of the whole pump. Missing carbon data is not a zero footprint.
03 / From source to approved data
Keep the evidence attached to the fact.
A useful product record preserves context at each step, including when the information changes.
- 01
Collect
Bring together product identifiers, material data, supplier responses and documents.
- 02
Connect
Link the value to the relevant part, unit, source and supporting evidence.
- 03
Review
An accountable person checks the proposal before a new version becomes current.
- 04
Reassess
Identify related products and assessments affected by a changed or expired source.
04 / A supplier sends an update
20% today. A proposal for 25%. What changes?
A supplier sends a new declaration for the pump housing. The proposed value has the same housing-only scope as the current value. The declaration still needs review.
The current record remains at 20% until the proposal is approved.
If approved, the new version becomes current and the earlier version stays in history. Related assessments can be marked for re-evaluation. No change is submitted from this page.

Questions about a product passport
Is this a live public passport?
No. This is a fictional walkthrough of preparing and reviewing product data. It does not issue a passport, publish evidence or connect to a registry.
Which fields are legally required for my product?
That depends on the product group and applicable legal acts. The example is not a legal requirements list. Check the current sources for your product.
Can a supplier change an approved value directly?
A supplier response is an input to internal review. Approved values keep their version history; a proposed change does not silently overwrite the current record.
How would we begin with our products?
Choose one product family and identify its existing identifiers, material records, evidence and owners. Then agree a limited workflow for collecting information, reviewing changes and resolving gaps.
Regulatory context and sources
This page explains product-data preparation. It does not establish legal conformity or certify the illustrative pump.
